Both sides of the box present maritime scenes with figurative staffage surrounded by gilt cartouches. The low horizon of the harbour indicates that a Dutch motif may have the original model. The traders’ Oriental dress, fishermen, boats and large sailing boat in the background capture the exotic flurry of activity at an unknown port. (lmp)
